| What is Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture? |
|
Chinese Medicine is very old
traditional healing arts, which has at least 5,000 years history in
China. Chinese Medicine was spread to lots of Asian countries in ancient
time, as well as well accepted in Europe, Africa, South and North
America in modern time. Chinese Medicine includes Acupuncture, Chinese
Natural herbs, acupressure, massage, cupping, Moxa and many other forms
of healing procedures. Ancient
healers studied the I
Ching (The Book of Changes),
Taoist philosophy, combined with knowledge of agriculture, geology,
environment, meteorology, astrology, etc. with human healing practices,
they create the concept of Yin and Yang (two opposite
energies), Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal & Water),
Channels and Collaterals (there are 12 major channels, 8 extraordinary
channels, 15 chollaterals and many smaller pathways, to circulate energy
and blood). There are also tremendous studies on human anatomy, internal
organs, six evils (etiologic factors, such as Wind, Cold, Summer Heat,
Dampness, Dryness and fire), Seven Emotional factors, and many other
pathologic changes. Among all those traditional forms of
healing arts, Acupuncture is the oldest form and the most brilliant,
popular and effective healing practice.
Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of hair-fine needles into
specific points on the Channels and Collaterals to stimulate the flow of
one’s Qi and blood, which can help body reach the highest healing
power. Modern studies indicate that
acupuncture influences the central and peripheral nervous system.
Evidence shows it releases endorphins from the brain which make
acupuncture particularly effective in pain control. Among a host of factors, acupuncture
affects sugar, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels in the blood, the
functioning of the gastrointestinal system and the activity of the
endocrine system. |
